It is not unusual that you feel hungry after hours of performing physical activities like exercising. Working out actually has an effect that increases appetite. Many believe that the purpose of working out is to set-off previous or subsequent indulgence in food. We always hear people saying that they work out for a party or so that they can eat pizza with beer afterwards. It is inevitable to crave for foods especially after long hours exercising. This is because exercising burns calories and the body would typically want more. There are many reasons why this practice should not be tolerated. To know why you should stop overeating after working out, below are some of the major reasons.
Calorie Intake Exceeds the Calories Burned
Overeating after working out defies the real meaning of exercising at the very first place. The primary purpose of exercise is to be healthy and physically fit. If you indulge yourself to unhealthy food after working out, you lose the purpose why you exert effort to exercise. Overeating after work out is actually more common to beginners. It is quite tempting to eat a lot after work out. Fitzgerald said that it is because of the reward psychology. After long hours of sweating and exhausting yourself, you would want some kind of comfort or reward. And in this case, a delicious and tasty post-workout meal is the most common recourse. If you are going to eat after work out, make sure that you are eating healthy and less caloric foods. If you tend to overeat, the calorie burned during workout might be way lower than the calorie of the food you ate. Make sure you are not overcompensating what you have burned.
If you do not watch the food you eat post workout, as discussed above, you might have more calorie intake than the calories you burned. This can lead to weight gain. You would want your hard work to pay off and not the other way around. Control and discipline yourself so that you would not end up wasting much of your time and effort.
Increases Risks of Disease and Illnesses
If the calorie intake exceeds the calorie you burned due to overeating after workout the tendency to develop LDL or the “bad” calories is higher. Having too much LDL calories in the body increases risks of various types of disease and illnesses like high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart-related ailments.
