The Importance of always sitting and Standing up Straight

The Importance of always sitting and Standing up Straight

Standing and sitting up straight is always taught to us at school or by our parents. This is so not only to look better but to improve posture as well as the strength and overall health of the muscles, joints, and bones. Sometimes when we need to finish school or work tasks and assignments, it is quite difficult to maintain sitting and standing up straight. We lose the right composure especially when we are exhausted. Standing and sitting up straight is actually for the better of posture and proper placement of the joints, muscles and bones. To understand the bigger picture, below are some of the reasons why standing and sitting up straight is generally important.

  1. Prevents and Reliefs Upper Body Pain

Our upper body is much affected when we do not sit and stand up straight. Not maintaining the proper posture contributes to the probability of having shoulder, neck, back and wrist pain. If you ever wonder why you always experience back or neck pain especially after a long day at work, it is because you are not sitting and standing up properly. Especially if your job takes too much sitting in your desk, it is most essential to observe proper posture.

  1. Improves Physical Appearance

We can’t deny it. A person with good and proper posture is more presentable and attractive that those who are otherwise. If you sit and stand up straight, the positioning of your bones is regulated. Posture is a product of habitual body positioning. If you always slouch, the tendency is for your body to adjust to the position you habitually portray. You will then get used to slouching for the rest of your life. If you want to look good, make sure you stand and sit up properly.

  1. Reduces risks of osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is very common to the elderly but there are already many who have this disorder even at a young age. There are many factors that trigger osteoporosis and one of it is not observing proper posture.  Getting used to slouching is proven to cause osteoporosis. Standing and sitting up straight avoids the spine from getting used to abnormal positions.

  1. Prevents Arthritis

Observing proper posture reduces risk of having arthritis. If your bones, joints, and muscles are positioned accordingly, the abnormal wearing out of joint surfaces that causes arthritis is avoided.

  1. Avoids Injuries

When you sit and stand properly, efficiency is implemented in your muscles thus prevents strain and fatigue. The energy that your body needs lowers and stress in your joints and bones are eliminated. This lessens your exposure to possibilities of injuries.
