Importance of Stretching on a Regular Basis

January 1, 2015 By Yvonne Bon Leave a Comment

Importance of Stretching on a Regular Basis

The importance of stretching on a daily basis cannot be ignored. Working out to lose weight and to develop muscles is vital to achieve optimal health and fitness. But what we lose focus on is stretching and experiencing its significant benefits to your body. Your muscles are composed of tissues that must be circulated in a healthy manner. If the muscles are idle and remain in its same posture all the time, the tendency that they are overused and overstressed is very high. Basically, without stretching circulation and flexibility is decreased and the risk of body pains and tendonitis is increased. It has been proven that stretching is just as important as exercise. To know why, read further.

  • Increased range of motion

Through stretching your muscles regularly, flexibility is increased to an optimal level. This means you get to enjoy the benefits of being able to move around much. You will not find difficulty doing intense movements. You are able to make movements that you think you are not even capable of.

  • Achieve the correct and proper posture

If you do not stretch your muscles the tendency is that they will tighten and become used to their position. If you spend a lot of time sitting in your desk without stretching every now and then do not ever wonder why you are getting used to slouching and having an unwanted posture.

  • Avoiding injuries

Preparing your muscles before engaging them to intense activities is the main cause of obtaining injuries. It is vital that you stretch prior to doing something intense to put your body in a state that is not very sensitive to changes. If you stretch, blood circulation is stimulated and your body temperature and heart rate are increased thus preparing your body to the immense changes that are to happen.

  • Increasing your energy levels

Over time, the capacity of your muscles to strengthen and develop deteriorates. If your muscles are as is for a long time they will get used to the stiffness. Stiff and idle muscles stop your body to achieve its maximum potential. If you regularly stretch you will get to enjoy and keep an energetic and fun-filled self.

Many people think that stretching is only associated with warm up and cool down exercises. The fact is that stretching must be done on a regular basis and not only limited pre and post workout. Stretching your muscles every now and then will help you achieve a healthier and fitter body.
