A lot of people overlook the importance of warm-up and cool down before and after physical exercise. Many do not realize that warm-up and cool down exercise are as important as the actual sport or exercise. Their contribution to the whole physical activity is significant enough that they must not be ignored.
Warm up exercise is done usually for 10 to 15 minutes at the beginning of the workout. Once the body experience changes as to when you are doing an intense workout, it becomes sensitive to the corresponding changes. There will be increase in the oxygen, respiratory rate, blood flow and the nutrient level absorbed by the cells. The body must be given sort of an allowance in order to cope up with the intensity of the physical activity. When muscles are contracting, the body temperature rises and the body responds irregularity to such increase. Through warm up exercise, the body is prepared to the sudden changes. Not only that they are essential for health purposes, they will also result to a more effective work out.
Jumping into the actual physical activity without warming up can cause irregularities especially in the muscles. Your muscles needed to be stretched before engaging into intense exercise. If you often encounter muscle pain, or worst injuries, that is because you did not warm-up properly. Before you put much pressure in your body, the muscles need to adjust first to avoid the consequences. With proper warm up, you can prepare your muscles to adapt to the tedious actual physical work-out. There are many types of warm up exercises. You can do a simple walking or jogging. Stretching would also be very essential.
Cooling down, just like warm-up exercise, is also of equal importance. After an intense work-out or physical activity, your muscles are very worn out. There must be cool down exercise for usually 10 minutes long to get your body into a regular state. Tedious activities heighten the body’s vitals and without cool down it is possible that blood pressure level become abnormal. Remember that after work-out, you cannot rest immediately or take a shower. Wait for your body to cool down and return to its regular state. Sports injuries are often caused by stiffness of the muscles explained by lack of warm up and cool down exercises. In engaging with sports or work out activities, it is vital to realize the importance of warm up and cool down exercises for more effective and safe physical activity.
