For sure you have heard or read somewhere that eating using smaller plates can help you control food intake. As convincing as it sounds, this idea is believed to be ineffective for many reasons. This is because of the fact that it is in the very nature of human to not stop eating until we are full. Although this idea works for some, it is generally not recommended by health experts. An experiment was conducted involving obese women. They are asked to use small plate in one day and regular size plate in the other day. Using the small plate just made them eat more serving given the fact that they would continue eating until they get satisfied.
Eating using a small plate does make you cautious of the quantity of the food you eat. But relying your diet entirely to the fact that you are using a small plate will lead you nowhere. There are many factors to an effective diet and focusing on using a small plate is just a tiny factor. It is vital to give attention first to the nutritional value of foods you are eating. If you can already control yourself to opt for healthier foods like fruits and vegetables, then you are ready to try out the small plate strategy.
It has also been found that switching from regular sized plate to small sized plate especially in the age range of 15 to 30 is not as effective as to those who age above 30. This is because at a young age, people are energetic and need more sources of energy for daily activities. It is quite useless to eat small amounts of food but eat very frequently. It is advised to eat plenty as long as the food consumed is expended and burned through physical activities. It is useless to use a smaller plate when you can consume more than one serving.
Another misconception is the fact that sometimes smaller plates contain less foods thus less nutrient content. It is okay to use big plate as long as it is loaded with very nutritious vegetables and fruits. It is important to think about what your plate is missing. It is not desirable to eat small amounts especially when the food has low contribution on health.
What we are trying to say here is that healthy diet is not about the size of the plate you are using. In order to lose weight you need to be able to control yourself to eat wisely. You should choose the type of foods that is good for your nutrition. Instead of focusing on the size of plate you are using, you should try to divert your attention in finding the right combination of foods in your diet. You should also remember that even if you are using a small plate, there are other foods that can make you fat and unhealthy which are not served in a plate. Even if you eat in a small plate but you enjoy foods that came from boxes, jars, packets, bottles, and the likes, using the small plate will render your diet useless.
